Lazama Synagogue
Lazama Synagogue (Slat al-Azama) is the oldest synagogue in Marrakech, traditionally dating to 1492 when Sephardic Jews fleeing Spain settled in Morocco. Located in the heart of the historic Mellah Jewish quarter, it bears witness to centuries of coexistence between Jews and Muslims in Morocco. It has been beautifully restored and preserves its original architectural elements of colorful tiles and carved wood. It is still used for prayers on special occasions by the small remaining Jewish community in Marrakech.
