Latin Bridge

The Latin Bridge is an Ottoman-era stone bridge over the Miljacka River, famous as the site where Archduke Franz Ferdinand was assassinated on June 28, 1914 - the spark that ignited World War I. Built in the 16th century, the current structure dates to 1798. A neutral plaque from 2014 marks the spot where Gavrilo Princip fired the fatal shots.

No, the footprints marking where Princip stood were removed in the 1990s due to sensitive interpretation of the assassination. Only a neutral 2014 plaque remains today.
