Laguna Quilotoa
Laguna Quilotoa fills the crater of an extinct volcano with shimmering emerald-green water at 3,914 meters elevation. The lake formed about 800 years ago following a catastrophic eruption and reaches depths of 250 meters. A steep trail descends from the rim to the lakeshore in 20-30 minutes, with a strenuous 1-2 hour climb back up. Kayaks can be rented at the beach to paddle the turquoise waters. The 12 km rim trail offers breathtaking views but requires 4-5 hours to complete.
