Laguna de los Tres is an emerald glacial lake located directly at the base of Mount Fitz Roy, offering one of the most dramatic views in Patagonia. The most popular destination in Los Glaciares National Park, the lake reflects the multiple granite spires of the Fitz Roy massif. The lake is named after the three French climbers who first reached the summit of Fitz Roy in 1952.

Start hiking at 3-4 AM to reach the lake for sunrise when Fitz Roy glows pink and orange. The trail is well-marked but challenging. Bring layers, water, and snacks. Weather changes rapidly.

No, camping at the lake itself is not permitted to protect the fragile ecosystem. The nearest campsite is Poincenot, about an hour from the lake, which requires advance reservation. Most hikers do the trek as a day hike from El Chalten.
