Kykkos Monastery
Kykkos Monastery is the wealthiest and most lavish monastery in Cyprus, perched at 1,318 meters in the Troodos Mountains. Founded in the 11th century, it houses an icon of the Virgin Mary believed to be painted by Saint Luke the Evangelist. The monastery features stunning Byzantine mosaics and frescoes throughout its corridors and chapels. Its museum contains an impressive collection of religious artifacts and historical treasures. The current structure dates to the 19th century after a fire destroyed the original building.
