Khao Yai National Park

Khao Yai is Thailand's oldest and one of its largest national parks, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Dense jungle just 200 km from Bangkok is home to wild elephants, gibbons, hornbills, and many other animals.

Main attractions: Haew Narok and Haew Suwat waterfalls (from "The Beach" film), viewpoints overlooking the jungle, night safaris for wildlife watching. The park is ideal for hiking and birdwatching.

Best time to visit is the dry season (November-February). You can stay at campsites or nearby hotels. Hiring a guide is recommended for deep jungle treks.

How to Get There

~150 km from Bangkok (2.5-3 h). Bus from Mo Chit to Pak Chong (3.5 h, ~280 THB), then local bus to park (30 min, 15 THB). Train to Pak Chong 3 h (from 130 THB). No transport in park — car rental optimal. Entry: 400 THB. Hours: 6:00-18:00.

Travel Tips

Useful tips for visiting Khao Yai National Park

Entry 400 THB foreigners, 40 THB Thais. Best for wildlife viewing early morning or late afternoon. Haew Narok and Haew Suwat waterfalls (from movie 'The Beach') are famous. Bring warm clothes — cooler at elevation. Night safari tours available with guides.

2-3 hours by car from Bangkok. Need own transport or tour — park is huge. Gates open at 6 AM.

Wild elephants, gibbons, deer and hornbills. UNESCO-listed jungle. Several hiking trails of varying difficulty.
