Johannesburg Art Gallery
Johannesburg Art Gallery, known as JAG, is the largest art gallery on the African continent. It's housed in a beautiful historic building designed by architect Sir Edwin Lutyens in 1915, located in Joubert Park. The permanent collection features over 9,000 artworks spanning from 17th-century European art to contemporary African art, including works by Picasso, Rodin, and Claude Monet. The gallery has a particular focus on South African artists such as Gerard Sekoto and Sydney Kumalo. Admission is free, making it an accessible cultural destination for all. Guided tours are available by request, and the building features stunning Edwardian architecture with secure parking on premises.
