Church of São João Evangelista
The Church of São João Evangelista, known as Igreja dos Lóios, is considered one of Portugal's most beautiful churches. Built in 1485 as the private chapel of the Cadaval ducal family, it blends Gothic, Manueline, and Baroque architecture. The interior is covered with stunning blue and white azulejo tiles from 1711 depicting the life of Saint Lorenzo Giustiniani. A glass floor section reveals a Moorish-era cistern below. The church is part of the Palace of the Dukes of Cadaval, which remains privately inhabited. The combination of tile work, architecture, and historical significance makes this an unmissable gem.
