Horsetail Fall is a seasonal waterfall on the east side of El Capitan, famous for the natural 'Firefall' phenomenon. For two weeks in February, if conditions are perfect (clear sky + flowing water), the setting sun illuminates the falls in orange and red, making it look like molten lava. Best viewed from El Capitan Picnic Area.
Park entrance fee only. No reservations required for 2026. Expect large crowds in February, especially weekends.
Mid-to-late February for Firefall (Feb 12-25, 2026 estimated). Arrive several hours before sunset. Check weather forecast.
