Early morning (before 8am) or sunset — fewer people and best light for photos. Avoid midday in summer — very hot. Winter and spring are best hiking seasons.
How to Get There
Several trails: from Griffith Observatory (easiest), Beachwood Canyon (moderate), Lake Hollywood (short with views). Drive to viewpoints, then hike 1-3 km.
What to Expect
Views of the sign and all of Los Angeles. Hiking to the sign is popular but the sign is fenced off — you cannot approach the letters. Best views from Mt. Hollywood and Griffith Observatory trails. Crowded, hot in summer.
