High Castle Füssen
Hohes Schloss (High Castle) towers over Füssen from a hilltop and was once the summer residence of the Prince-Bishops of Augsburg. Today it houses a branch of the Bavarian State Gallery and the Municipal Painting Gallery. The castle is considered one of the best-preserved late medieval castle complexes in Bavaria. The inner courtyard facades are decorated with trompe l'oeil painting that creates the illusion of 3D windows and oriels. Wonderful views over the town and Alps from the terraces. The Gothic knights' hall and painted ceiling are highlights of the interior.
