Hinterdorf (Old Town)
The historic quarter of Zermatt featuring about 30 old buildings restored from barns, stables, and houses dating to the 16th century. This is what Zermatt looked like before tourists arrived in the 1800s. The traditional wooden buildings are constructed from local larch wood and feature raised stone bases and stone roofs. At the end of the old village is a fountain dedicated to mountain guide Ulrich Inderbinen who climbed the Matterhorn 371 times.
