Heidelberg University
Heidelberg University, known as Ruperto Carola, was founded in 1386 and is Germany's oldest university and one of the oldest in the world. The baroque Old University building, constructed 1712-1735, houses the magnificent Alte Aula ceremonial hall featuring Neo-Renaissance murals depicting university history. The University Museum on the ground floor showcases centuries of academic achievements and student traditions. The Great Hall contains historic artwork and is used for academic ceremonies and concerts.
