Hallstatt Salt Mine
Hallstatt Salt Mine is the oldest salt mine in the world dating back over 7000 years. This remarkable archaeological site gave its name to the entire Hallstatt culture of the Iron Age. During the 90-minute tour you will slide down Europes oldest wooden slide see the worlds oldest wooden staircase and learn about the perfectly preserved Salt Man from 2000 years ago. The temperature inside the mine is 8 degrees Celsius so dress warmly. Allow 3 hours for the complete experience including funicular ride. Note: Closed from September 2025 to June 2026 for major renovations and new funicular construction
