Hakata Machiya Folk Museum
Hakata Machiya Folk Museum showcases daily life and culture of Fukuoka city during the Meiji and Taisho periods (late 1800s to early 1900s), focusing on traditional urban townhouses of that era. Located across from Kushida Shrine, it comprises three halls. The Machiya Building is a designated cultural property with surprisingly spacious interior despite its narrow frontage - a clever traditional design. Visitors can watch Hakata-ori weaving demonstrations and try weaving themselves. VR exhibits and films bring Hakata's history and festivals to life with English translations. Free guided tours available daily at 2 PM.
