Which Section to Choose
Badaling — 70 km from Beijing, fully restored with cable car. Most visited, arrive by 7:30 AM.
Mutianyu — 90 km, well-preserved with toboggan descent. 23 watchtowers over 2.5 km.
Jinshanling — 130 km, partially wild. Best wall photos are taken here.
Simatai — only section open for night visits.
History
First fortifications date to 7th century BCE. Current wall is Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). Millions of workers built it, hundreds of thousands died.
Practical Info
Best time: spring and autumn. Tickets: 40-65 yuan. To Badaling: S2 express from Beijing North Station (20 yuan, 80 minutes).
