Golden Roof
The Golden Roof is Innsbruck's most famous landmark - a balcony adorned with 2,657 gilded copper tiles built in 1500 by order of Emperor Maximilian I to celebrate his marriage to Bianca Maria Sforza. The balcony served as a royal box for watching festivities and events in the square below. Located in the heart of the Old Town, it represents the symbol of the city and one of Austria's most important historical monuments.
