The Mountain of the Dead is a cone-shaped hill one kilometer north of Shali, containing hundreds of rock-cut tombs from the 26th Dynasty, Ptolemaic, and Roman periods. Some tombs feature wonderfully preserved wall paintings. Notable tombs include Si Amun and the Crocodile Tomb.
