The Gate of Dawn is the only surviving gate of the original 16th-century Vilnius city walls. Its upper floor houses a chapel containing the famous icon of the Blessed Virgin Mary, believed to possess miraculous powers, attracting thousands of pilgrims from Lithuania and Poland every year. The icon is covered with a 17th-century silver and gold riza that reveals only the face and hands.
