Garachico Natural Pools (El Caleton)
Garachico Natural Pools (El Caleton) are a stunning collection of natural swimming pools formed from solidified lava of the devastating 1706 eruption that forever changed the town's history. Garachico was Tenerife's main port and commercial capital before the volcano completely destroyed the harbor. The lava that flowed into the ocean solidified into natural rock pools of varying sizes and depths, filled with crystal-clear seawater. Lava rock breakwaters protect the pools from strong ocean swells, making swimming safe and enjoyable. Access is completely free and available around the clock. The surrounding old town is beautiful in its own right with historic churches and plazas. Sunsets from here are among the most spectacular on the island. Basic facilities include changing areas and showers nearby.
