Fukuoka City Museum
Fukuoka City Museum, located in the heart of Seaside Momochi, presents Fukuoka's history from prehistoric times to the modern era. The star attraction is the 'Gold Seal' (Kan no Wa no Na no Kokuou In) - an authentic 1st-century gold seal proving diplomatic relations between Japan and ancient China, one of Japan's most important archaeological discoveries found on Shikanoshima Island in 1784. The museum also covers the Mongol invasions, Fukuoka's maritime trade history, and local culture. Extended summer hours from late July to late August.
