Former Hokkaido Government Office
Known as 'Akarenga' (Red Brick), this grand American-style Neo-Baroque building was constructed in 1888 and served Hokkaido's government for 80 years. Reopened July 2025 after comprehensive earthquake-resistance renovation. New facilities include Ishiya restaurant (Shiroi Koibito) and an observation balcony from the previously off-limits octagonal tower. The front garden is popular for cherry blossoms and snow scenes.
