Fonte Gaia (Fountain of Joy) is a monumental fountain in the heart of Piazza del Campo. The current fountain is a 19th-century replica of Jacopo della Quercia's original masterpiece (1419). The marble panels depict the Madonna and Child and scenes from Genesis. The originals are in Santa Maria della Scala.

When water arrived at Piazza del Campo through a 25km underground conduit in 1342, the Sienese celebrated the event with great rejoicing. The fountain was named 'Gaia' (joy) to commemorate this happy occasion.
