Fontainhas is Panjim's oldest Latin quarter, recognized by UNESCO as a Heritage Zone since 1984. Colorful narrow streets, Portuguese-era houses with terracotta roofs, art galleries, and a Mediterranean atmosphere in the heart of Goa's capital.
Early morning or late afternoon for photography. Visit during Fontainhas Festival (New Year) for live music and art. Walking tours available. Many houses are private - respect residents.

An old Portuguese law required houses to be painted after every monsoon. White was forbidden (reserved for churches), so residents chose yellow, blue, green and red ochre.
