Ethem Bey Mosque

Ethem Bey Mosque is a beautiful Ottoman mosque built between 1791 and 1821, famous for its exceptional frescoes depicting trees, waterfalls, and bridges - unusual for Islamic architecture. The mosque survived communist era when religion was banned and became a symbol of religious freedom when thousands gathered here for prayers in 1991. Restored in 2019-2021.

Ethem Bey Mosque (1789-1823) is one of Albania's most beautiful mosques on Skanderbeg Square. Free admission. Active mosque - respect worshippers. Closes during Friday prayer (12:00-14:00). Women should cover heads, modest dress for all.
