El Badi Palace
El Badi Palace, meaning 'The Incomparable', was in the 16th century one of the greatest palaces of the Islamic world. Sultan Ahmad al-Mansur built it to celebrate his victory at the Battle of Alcácer Quibir, using Italian Carrara marble, gold, and onyx for decoration. Today it stands as majestic ruins with a vast courtyard with pools and towering wall remnants where storks nest. It houses a museum with the historic wooden minbar from the Koutoubia Mosque. Despite its current state, visitors can imagine its former grandeur through the vast spaces and remaining details.
