Eisriesenwelt Ice Cave
Eisriesenwelt is the world's largest ice cave, stretching 42 kilometers inside Austria's Tennengebirge Alps. About one kilometer is explored during a 75-minute guided tour, revealing stunning ice formations from towering pillars to frozen waterfalls and crystalline palaces. Discovered in 1879, the cave remained a local secret until opening to tourists in 1920. Access requires a cable car ride offering spectacular valley views, followed by a 20-minute uphill walk. Inside, passages are illuminated by traditional carbide lamps, adding a magical atmosphere. Temperature inside is 0°C year-round, so warm clothing is essential. Open only from May 1 to October 31. Advance booking is required as tours have limited capacity.
