Dejima
Dejima is a fan-shaped artificial island built in 1634 that served as the sole site of Dutch trade with Japan during the isolation period (1641-1859). For over 200 years, it was Japan's only window to the Western world. Historic buildings have been meticulously restored, including the Dutch Captain's quarters, warehouses, and merchant houses. Visitors can explore interactive exhibits about trade and daily life of that era. The site features enhanced accessibility with temporary slopes at the main entrance, ramps throughout, and elevator access to upper floors. Special wheelchairs are provided for certain rooms with traditional flooring.
