Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine

Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine is one of Japan's most important Shinto shrines, dedicated to the spirit of scholar Michizane Sugawara, worshipped as the deity of learning, culture, and the arts. Built above Michizane's grave, the shrine attracts over 10 million visitors annually, especially students praying for exam success. The grounds feature 6,000 plum trees blooming from late February to mid-March, with the legendary Tobiume tree said to have flown from Kyoto to reunite with its master. A heart-shaped pond and three bridges create a serene atmosphere for worshippers.
