Curonian Spit
You stand on the crest of a sand dune as tall as a twelve-story building, and before you opens a sight that seems impossible. To the left - the endless Baltic Sea, steel-gray, cold, infinite. To the right - the quiet Curonian Lagoon, mirror-calm, warm, homely. Between them - a narrow strip of land 400 meters to 4 kilometers wide, covered with pines and wrapped in sand. This is the Curonian Spit - one of the strangest and most beautiful places on the planet.
What is the Curonian Spit
A sandy peninsula 98 kilometers long from Zelenogradsk to Klaipeda in Lithuania. The narrowest point is 400 meters. A UNESCO World Heritage Site. Moving dunes, Dancing Forest, ornithological station since 1901, deserted beaches.
