Corniche Beach
Corniche Beach is Abu Dhabi's main public beach, awarded the Blue Flag for cleanliness. White sand, calm bay waters, developed infrastructure, and city skyline views make it the capital's best free beach.
Beach Structure
The beach is divided into zones: family (women and children under 10 only), general, and paid with loungers. All sections are clean and well-maintained. Breakwaters ensure calm water. Lifeguards are on duty during daytime.
Blue Flag
This international certification confirms water quality, sand cleanliness, safety, and infrastructure. Abu Dhabi takes standards seriously. Littering incurs fines, smoking only in designated zones, alcohol is prohibited.
Infrastructure
Showers, changing rooms, and restrooms are free. Sun lounger and umbrella rentals in the paid zone. Cafés and food kiosks. Kayak, paddleboard, and jet ski rentals. Children's play area with water slides.
Paid Zone
Gate 1 and Gate 2 are equipped sections with loungers, umbrellas, and showers. Entry around 10-15 dirhams. Book ahead on weekends—spots fill up by noon. Weekdays are calmer.
When to Come
Morning before 10:00 AM—swimming before the heat. Sunset—photos and walks. Summer water is bathtub-warm; winter is a comfortable 22-24°C. Friday is family day—crowded. Monday-Wednesday is quieter.
What to Bring
High-SPF sunscreen. Lots of water. Sandals for scorching sand. Modest swimwear for a public beach—bikinis are acceptable but topless is strictly prohibited.
Atmosphere and Character
Corniche Beach is where locals and expats relax together. Clean, safe, organized—typical for the Emirates. After the beach, take a sunset walk along the Corniche promenade.
