Congress Avenue Bridge hosts the largest urban bat colony in North America, with approximately 1.5 million Mexican free-tailed bats living under the bridge. Every evening from March to November, the bats emerge at sunset in a spectacular natural display. Best viewing is mid-March to mid-April during spring migration and late July through August when bat pups learn to fly. The south side of the bridge offers the best views.
