Monumental Cemetery (Cimitero Monumentale)

Open-air museum (since 1866) with stunning sculptures and mausoleums. Works by famous Italian sculptors of 19th-20th centuries. Buried here: Alessandro Manzoni, Arturo Toscanini, Campari family. Eclectic architecture: from Gothic to Art Deco. One of Europe's most beautiful necropoli.

How to Get There

Metro M5 (purple) to Monumentale — exit directly to main entrance. Or M2 (green) to Garibaldi + 10 min walk. Trams 3, 4, 7, 11, 12, 14.

Tue-Sun 8:00-18:00. Closed Monday. On holidays (Jan 1, Easter, May 1, Aug 15, Dec 25-26, etc.) 8:00-13:00. Central gate open all day.

Covered shoulders and knees recommended (as in church). Maintain silence and respect — this is an active cemetery. Photos allowed but no flash at graves.
