Church of Nikola na Posade
The Church of Nikola na Posade is a unique architectural gem from the 17th century and one of the most photographed buildings in Kolomna. The church is famous for its stunning roof covered with one hundred and five kokoshniki — decorative gabled arches arranged in five consecutive tiers that create an astonishing visual effect resembling stacked crowns. This architectural design represents a rare and outstanding example of the Muscovite Baroque style that flourished in Russia during the 17th century. The church belongs to the Old Believer Orthodox community and preserves ancient worship traditions that date back to before the 17th-century church reforms. Although the interior is accessible only during religious services, the breathtaking exterior is visible at all times and is well worth the visit on its own. The building is located in the old town quarter near the Kremlin amid charming historical streets, making it easy to combine with a broader exploration of Kolomna's rich architectural heritage.
