Checkpoint Charlie

Checkpoint Charlie was the most famous crossing point between East and West Berlin during the Cold War, open only to foreigners, diplomats, and Allied military. Today, a replica guardhouse marks the spot, and the adjacent Mauermuseum (Wall Museum) chronicles dramatic escape attempts from East Germany using homemade balloons, submarines, and armored cars.
