Capitoline Museums
The Capitoline Museums are the world's oldest public museum, founded in 1471 on the Capitoline Hill designed by Michelangelo. They house an unparalleled collection of Roman art and ancient sculptures including the iconic Capitoline Wolf, the equestrian statue of Marcus Aurelius, and the Dying Gaul. An underground tunnel connects the two museum buildings, passing through ruins of the ancient Temple of Jupiter. The museums offer stunning views over the Roman Forum from their terrace.
