Chapel of Bones
The Capela dos Ossos, located within the Carmo Church, is one of Faro's most unique landmarks. Built in the 19th century, its walls and ceiling are adorned with the bones and skulls of over one thousand Carmelite monks, arranged in geometric patterns. It was intended to inspire meditation on mortality and the transient nature of existence. Though smaller than the famous bone chapel in Évora, it is well preserved and offers a haunting, unforgettable experience. The visit also includes the beautiful Baroque Carmo Church with its striking twin-towered facade.
