Chapel of Bones
The Chapel of Bones is Évora's most macabre attraction, with its walls and pillars decorated with the bones and skulls of over 5,000 monks. Built in the 16th century by Franciscan friars as a meditation on the transience of life, it greets visitors with a chilling inscription at the entrance: We bones here, await your bones. The chapel also contains two mummified bodies hanging from the walls. Your ticket includes access to the Sacred Art Museum, Nativity Collection, and a panoramic terrace with city views. Despite its dark theme, it remains one of Portugal's most visited religious monuments.
