Canterbury Museum
Canterbury Museum is one of New Zealand's oldest and most significant museums, founded in 1867. The original building on Rolleston Avenue is undergoing major redevelopment until 2028/2029, but the pop-up museum at Gloucester Street showcases collection highlights including the famous Antarctic Collection. Visitors can see a sled from Amundsen's South Pole expedition, Captain Scott's Polar Medal, ride an Antarctic skidoo, and explore interactive displays about regional history and Maori culture.
