Brusensky Monastery
Brusensky Monastery is one of the oldest monasteries in Kolomna, founded in 1552 by order of Ivan the Terrible following the conquest of Kazan. Located within the walls of the Kolomna Kremlin, it houses the tent-shaped Assumption Church built in 1552, which is recognized as one of the earliest tent-roof churches in Russia and represents a unique architectural masterpiece. The monastery is distinguished by its beautiful gardens that provide an oasis of tranquility and contemplation amid the old town. Over the centuries, the monastery experienced periods of prosperity and decline, but has been carefully restored to recapture its former grandeur. Its architecture reflects a fascinating blend of Russian building styles from the 16th through the 19th centuries. Visitors can explore the churches and reflect on the rich history of this place, which is closely linked to major events in Russian history, including the military campaigns of Ivan the Terrible that shaped the nation.
