The Bridge of Sighs is an enclosed white limestone bridge connecting the Doge's Palace to the old prisons. Built in 1600 in Baroque style, it was named because prisoners would sigh as they caught their last glimpse of Venice through its small windows. Today it has become a romantic symbol - kissing under the bridge at sunset is said to bring eternal love.
