Bourke's Luck Potholes
Bourke's Luck Potholes are extraordinary geological formations created over millions of years by water eddies at the confluence of the Blyde and Treur rivers. The deep cylindrical holes eroded into yellow and gray sandstone create a surreal natural landscape. The emerald-green water contrasts beautifully with the colorful rock formations. Named after Tom Bourke, a 19th-century gold prospector who believed there was gold here. Multiple pedestrian bridges allow spectacular views of the formations from different angles. An information center explains the geology and history. The potholes mark the beginning of the Blyde River Canyon, making this a natural starting point for exploring the Panorama Route. Perfect location for photography, especially when sunlight hits the water.
