Bourbaki Panorama
The Bourbaki Panorama is one of the world's largest and best-preserved circular paintings. Completed in 1881 by Edouard Castres, it depicts the entry of 87,000 exhausted French soldiers into Switzerland after their defeat in the Franco-Prussian War of 1871. The giant circular painting with a 112-meter circumference and 1,100 square meters surrounds visitors with a stunning historical scene. Three-dimensional figures in the foreground enhance the illusion. A masterpiece documenting the largest humanitarian operation of the 19th century.
