The Utrecht University Botanic Gardens is the largest academic botanic garden in the Netherlands, spanning 10 hectares and housing over 10,000 plant species from around the world. Founded in 1639, it is built around the historic 19th-century Fort Hoofddijk. The gardens include six different areas including a rock garden, tropical garden, and impressive greenhouses.
Closed December to February. Museumkaart accepted. University staff free
Visit spring through autumn (March-November). Peak bloom is spring and early summer. The butterfly house is open during summer months. Located near Utrecht Science Park.
