Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre

The Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre (BSBCC) is a unique facility dedicated to rescuing and rehabilitating sun bears, the world's smallest bear species. Located next to the famous Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre. The centre currently houses 41 rescued bears from illegal captivity. Visitors can observe bears in a natural forest environment from an elevated observation platform. Staff are always available to answer questions. The centre works to rehabilitate bears for return to the wild. A visit typically takes one hour.

Sun bears are the smallest bear species (70-140cm) while giant pandas are much larger (1.2-1.9m). Sun bears have short black fur with a yellow/orange crescent-shaped chest marking, while pandas are black and white. Sun bears are omnivores eating honey, insects, and fruits, while pandas eat almost exclusively bamboo. Sun bears are native to tropical forests of Southeast Asia including Borneo, while pandas are from China only
