Bohnenviertel (Bean Quarter)
The Bohnenviertel, or Bean Quarter, is the only preserved historic neighborhood in Stuttgart's city center, dating back to 1392. This charming district features narrow cobblestone streets lined with half-timbered houses, cozy wine taverns (Weinstuben), antique shops, art galleries, and artisan boutiques. The name allegedly comes from the beans that poor residents once grew in their small gardens. Today, it's a vibrant area beloved by locals and tourists alike, offering authentic Swabian cuisine, local wines, and a glimpse into old Stuttgart. The quarter comes alive in the evenings with its intimate restaurants and bars, making it perfect for experiencing genuine Stuttgart nightlife away from tourist crowds.
