Blue Lagoon

The Blue Lagoon is Iceland most famous geothermal spa, set in an otherworldly black lava field. The milky-blue waters are rich in silica, algae and minerals, maintaining a comfortable 37-40°C year-round. Created from the outflow of the nearby Svartsengi geothermal power plant, its unique properties were discovered accidentally when locals noticed skin improvements. Now a world-renowned wellness destination.

The Blue Lagoon is man-made, formed from the silica-rich wastewater of the nearby Svartsengi geothermal power plant. However, the geothermal water and minerals are completely natural, and the unique healing properties were discovered by accident.
