faq.subtitle Blue Grotto

The stunning blue color is created by sunlight entering the caves and reflecting off the white sandy seabed. The light is filtered through the clear Mediterranean water, creating an intense azure glow that illuminates the cave walls. The effect is most vivid on sunny mornings.

No, boat trips are weather-dependent. When the sea is rough, boats cannot safely navigate the caves and trips are cancelled. This is common during winter months and stormy weather. Summer (June-September) offers the most reliable conditions with hardly any cancellations.

Travel Tips

Useful tips for visiting Blue Grotto

Bring cash - payment for boat rides is cash only. Check weather conditions before visiting as boats cancel during rough seas (common outside summer). The viewpoint above is spectacular even if you cannot take the boat tour. Combine with a visit to nearby Hagar Qim temples.
