Bibi-Khanym Mosque
Bibi-Khanym Mosque is one of the largest and most grandiose mosques in the Islamic world, built by Timur between 1399-1404 after his Indian campaign. The main portal stood 35 meters high and the dome spanned 18 meters, making it one of the largest buildings of its era. The mosque was dedicated to Timur's favorite wife, Saray Mulk Khanum. Though earthquakes damaged the structure over centuries, modern restoration has returned much of its original splendor. A massive marble Quran stand in the courtyard stands as testament to its past glory.
