Bayon
Bayon is the central temple of Angkor Thom and one of the most mysterious temples in the world. Built in the late 12th century by King Jayavarman VII, it features over 200 massive stone faces smiling enigmatically from its 54 towers. The faces are believed to represent the Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara, or perhaps the king himself. The bas-reliefs on the walls depict scenes of daily Khmer life and naval battles against the Cham, offering invaluable historical documentation.
